Seven Steps to Makeover Your Schedule : Productive Activities Do you feel productive?
Do you have time for activities that bring you joy?
Like a closet, many women clutter their schedules with activities that no longer serve them. A cluttered schedule leads to a feeling of rushing without productivity and a sense of not getting to the good stuff in life.
Makeover your schedule like you would your wardrobe! Here’s how:
First, let go of anything that’s not useful or wonderful:
- For one week, keep track of everything you do and how much time you spend on each activity.
- Write down, beside each activity, a number from one to ten to reflect how much value it contributes to your life.
- Eliminate or consolidate everything below a six. After noticing my ratings and keeping track of the time I spent on housecleaning, I hired a housekeeper. By hiring a housekeeper for two hours a week, I freed up four hours of my schedule!
Then, fill your schedule with the best!
- Write down all your goals. Start with writing down all the things you want to accomplish in your entire life. Then imagine that you were only going to be on planet earth for six more months. How would you want to spend those six months? Together, these two lists will include your values and your dreams. Combine these lists into one and refine them.
- Prioritize your intentions. Which three goals, if accomplished, would change your life for the better most dramatically? Choose your top three goals for now. You may want to spend a week or two choosing.
- Write down all the activities you can think of that will take you toward these three goals, and again, pick the best. When you plan your weekly schedule, create blocks of time for these activities at the times your energy is highest and you experience the fewest interruptions.
- Complete your schedule by adding the activities you need to do and the ones that add consistent value, such as spending time with your family.
Fill your schedule, don’t stuff it! For a wonderful schedule, like a beautiful closet, you need empty space. Leave yourself free time where you can, in the moment, do anything you want.
