Q. What is a Face Lift?
A. Facelift is a generic term that refers to any surgical procedure that rejuvenates the face removing the stigmata of aging.
Q What are the benefits of a facelift procedure?
A. Facelifts are designed to produce a more harmonious and balanced, as well as youthful appearance.
Q Are there significant risks associated with facelift surgery?
A. Like any surgical procedure, associated risks; such as, wound healing difficulties, infection and bleeding can occur with a facelift procedure, but are rare. Complications specific to facelift surgery is injury to a portion of the facial nerve which allows facial movement. These injuries are usually transient and to a limited area of the face.
Q Can I expect permanent results from a facelift?
A. The rejuvenating results of a facelift should be significant, long lasting and carry on for years. Time, however, marches on for all of us. A facelift cannot stop ongoing or natural aging or eliminate the effects of gravity. Despite natural aging; however, the improved appearance brought about by a more harmonious balance to your face with a facelift should last for a very long time.
Q Is there a common technique for facelift procedures?
A. There are a variety of facelift techniques available today, but all of them are performed to improve and enhance facial contours producing a more youthful appearance. Rejuvenating the cheeks, jaw line and neck are the main areas of focus for a facelift.
As noted above, facelift techniques vary considerably from surgeon to surgeon. The trend has been for less invasive procedures and quicker recovery times. What technique is chosen is a combination of many factors, including the patient’s desires and the surgeon’s skills. In my opinion, very limited procedures produce similarly limited results. To a large degree, a facelift should be tailored to the patient’s needs and expectations.
