There is a great old book called "The Science of Getting Rich" written in 1911 by a man named Wallace Wattles. The book was the inspiration for the movie "The Secret" concerning the law of attraction. Although "The Science of Getting Rich" is about the law of attraction, it never calls it that, and is often known as one of the original references in using the law and putting it into action in life. Wallace Wattles writes: “You must form a clear and definite mental picture of what you want; you cannot transmit an idea before you have it yourself. You must have it before you can give it; and many people fail to impress Thinking Substance because they have themselves only a vague and misty concept of the things they want to do, have, or to become.” Wattles talks about a sensory rich vision as the first step. This is a vision powerful enough to inspire and motivate you to take action to make the vision a reality. How can you have something if you don't really know what it is? Vague or general ideas are not powerful. You need details. Think of it this way, I can tell you that there’s something I love to eat but it will not stir you if I do that. It’s too vague and does not create an image. However if I tell you that I love gingerbread cookies and I love them crisp with lots of ginger, if I describe what it’s like to eat gingerbread or smell it, and describe the joy, the smell, the look, the touch, all senses of what it is – that gives you a rich detail-filled vision. Let’s talk about other ideas that create success and are important tips to be exceptional. 1) Know your field. Knowing what you’re going to do and be an expert in what you want to do. 2) Develop a Viable Business Model. You can’t sustain a business that doesn’t make money. It’s okay to start small and build as you go along. 3) Get It Right The First Time: We have one opportunity to make a first impression with investors, customers, PR, marketing, and others. Make the first time the right time. 4) Take Advantage of Opportunities. The great thing about life is you can’t plan everything. So when an Opportunity springs up, be ready and say yes. It’s what you’ve been waiting for! 5) Believe In Yourself. Have confidence that what you’re an expert in, you can do. If you have a set back and you keep moving forward you will come out stronger. 6) Find Someone Else To Believe In You. That can advance your career. Pick your boss, not the job. People who believe in you often will open doors for us unexpectedly. 7) Make Plateaus An Opportunity: Use those plateaus for self-development. Find out what you need to improve during this lull and make it a priority to be trained or coached and learn it. 8) Make Problems into opportunities. Handle them with calm and responsibility. Look at any issue in terms of what it is doing to you, your business or company. Make necessary changes to release the problem and move forward graciously. 9) Be Careful How You Treat People. Your reputation is important and it precedes you. It’s a small world after all, so do not leave any ghosts that can come back to haunt you. 10) Be In Love with Someone Kind and Helpful: Allow yourself to have an unbelievable partner. Someone who gets you, accepts you and supports you. And as a reminder you can do the work internally as well. It’s equally, if not more important. Basically using what Wallace Wattles described is about setting up a daily cycle in your life. 1. Visualize an outcome 2. Take note of the ideas 3. See the world in the context of this vision 4. Notice new things; by appreciating rather than discounting or judging 5. Let the vision gain momentum 6. Take action in all the ways you can on these ideas and on your vision 7. Repeat this every day "When you know that you're capable of dealing with whatever comes, you have the only security the world has to offer." Harry Browne, Financial Advisor and Writer
