In my last article, I encouraged you to get a gmail account and to put yourself on Google Maps. There are a few other things you can do so that Google knows your every move almost instantly. When you get your gmail account, under your Inbox link, you will see something called Buzz. That is sort of like Twitter. You can say what is on your mind right now, right this very second. You can Buzz as often as you like. New products, new baby, new Spring or Summer Sale, what ever you have got going. You can follow people and people can follow you. The trick is to be original, be truthful and be interesting. Do not waste your time with Welcome to my site. Yawn. Say things that are a call to action such as, "Check out the cutest shoes on the planet on sale now for 50% off at www.redshoes.com If we don't have your size, we'll eat our hats." Short, snippy, funny, provocative. Are you blogging? If not why not? Blogger.com has been purchased by Google. So everything you blog about will be Googleized faster (yes I just made up that word). Set up Google Alerts for your main keyword phrases. that way, when information about your business is newly indexed, you can see who your competitors are, you can get reciprocal links, you can see what other people are doing and if you like it, you can do it too. Get your site registered at Google Webmaster Tools. They give you a meta tag to place in the header section of your index page. Then they verify that the site is yours. Automatically you will get a lot of information about your site including inbound links and top keywords. Google Adsense and Google Keywords are two more powerful tools you can use for free.
