I’ve been around Network Marketing for quite a few years now. I’ve done everything wrong, and spent a LOT of time doing it for most of those years. I’m sure you’ll agree that as a busy Mom you do NOT have the time and luxury of learning how to grow a home business in that way. So I’m, going to cover the 6 steps to sponsoring new reps into your home business. My goal is to give you some shortcuts, and some long term homework assignments as well. First of all, what are the six steps? They are: 1. Building Rapport (a.k.a. “Friendship First, Sponsoring Second”). 2. Pre-qualifying. 3. Ask Questions and find the Core Need. 4. Invitation to learn about your business 5. Overcoming Objections 6. Closing Coincidently, these steps are also the points of failure in Network Marketing. It’s a good illustration of the truth that only through failure can we reach success. Step 1. Building Rapport. Probably the biggest mistake that all of us have made at least once, is failing to build a strong rapport with a prospect. It is the foundation step that must be completed before going any further. An easy way to remember this crucial first step is the simple phrase “Friendship first – sponsoring second”. Think of it in this way: If you do not have a good rapport with your prospects, you will never know their real objections. Why? Because they will not tell you, until they feel they can trust you. Building rapport is CRUCIAL for Step 3! If you’re using Internet Marketing to collect leads and grow your business, Capture pages can be used to build rapport and pre-qualify people. Be warned though, this needs to be done correctly, or you’re just going to end up chasing people away. You will also probably spend a lot of money doing it! Step 2. Pre-qualifying. The second biggest mistake in Network Marketing is failure to effectively pre-qualify a prospect. Until you have pre-qualified someone, they are not a prospect – they are a suspect. Most often, I see people trying to overcome the “I don’t want to” suspect. The first goal in pre-qualification is determining “Do they want to?”. They only way that you will know this, if by first building a rapport and listening to what is going on in their life and determining if they are open to an alternative solution to a real problem that they are dealing with. For example: someone complains about their job. You respond with “Maybe you should start your own business?” If they respond negatively, they’re probably not a prospect. If they respond positively, go to step 3. Step 3 Ask Questions and find the Core Need. This is probably the most important step. Why? Because if you don’t effectively find a need, you should NEVER try and sponsor someone! I know, this goes against everything we are taught in the old school – but this is the Truth! If you have pre-qualified your prospect correctly, you have already stopped talking to them if they do NOT have a strong desire. Once you have found a strong desire, you just need to find out what it is. Here’s a rule that I suggest for you: Strongly pre-qualify your prospects. you’ll end up with less people in step 3, but the ones who make it to step 3 - will be more qualified (to start their own business), and your sponsoring ratios with those people will be DRAMATICALLY Higher! I hope these first three steps have given you some awareness into improving your sponsoring results. In Part 2, I’ll cover steps 4 through 6 for Sponsoring People into your Home Business.
